VITICULTURE & WINEMAKING PHILOSOPHY

Somerset Hill is a family owned and managed vineyard planted in 1995 and 1996 in the Great Southern region of Western Australia.  Our vineyard experiences a truly maritime climate which suits the production of the classic varieties, Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Merlot.

The vineyard is the highest elevated in Denmark, therefore producing fruit which can be described as true cool climate fruit.  This gives us the opportunity to ripen our fruit slower than most other vineyards.  We sometimes pick fruit 3 weeks later than vineyards elsewhere in the Great Southern, giving us the chance of producing wines of great fruit intensity and length but retaining excellent acid levels and delicacy.

We do not blend wines from other vineyards so in each bottle of Somerset Hill you are guaranteed to only taste the fruit from our vineyard.

The Somerset Hill range of wines is exclusively packaged with traditional enduring label design.  Wine styles available are Pinot Noir, Unwooded Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Methode Champenoise "Somerset Constellation".

Somerset Hill Semillon has been voted in the top five in the State, and top 10 in Australia, recently winning a gold medal at the Qantas/Mt Barker  Wine show.

Our  Semillons have received 94 out of 100 by James Halliday, which places it as one of the best Semillons available in Australia. Winestates Best of Western Australia competition,  have just awarded our Semillon with 4 ½ stars which places it as one of the best Semillons in Western Australia.  Sauvignon Blancs have scored 93% by   James Halliday . At the ANZ Bank wine awards our Pinot was voted the best estate grown Pinot in Western Australia.  John Jens, wine critic and retailer, wrote that Somerset Hill was a Pinot producer of the highest calibre in Western Australia producing wines that are truly unique and world class.  Our unwooded chardonnays have been awarded in the Top 100 wines in Australia.  Our Pinots have won National and International awards and have been served to the Royal Family of Denmark.  The Merlot is produced in limited quantities and highly sought after - true cool climate delicate, elegant style.  

We were the first to produce in our region, methode champenoise in two styles.  A highly sought after and well regarded sparkling wine.

We are experienced exporters of wine as we have exported wines to Europe and England
